Reggie Watts is an internationally renowned vocal artist/ beatboxer/ musician/ comedian who wows audiences with his live performances which are 100% improvised. Using his formidable voice, looping pedals, and his vast imagination, Reggie blends and blurs the lines between music and comedy. No two performances are the same and to that end, “genius” is the word most often used to describe Reggie Watts. LA Weekly crowned him “the most wildly inventive new talent of the past five years” while New York Magazine hailed Reggie as “Spectacularly original,” Rolling Stone featured him as “Hot Comedian,” SPIN named him as “Best New Comedian” and the LA Times praised Reggie is “a superstar.” As a solo performer, Reggie was handpicked by Conan O’Brien to open nightly on Conan’s sold out North American Prohibited From Being Funny on Television tour. Reggie has performed sold out headlining tours in the US and Europe, performed sets at Bonnaroo, SXSW, Bumbershoot and more. At the prestigious TED Conference he received a standing ovation. He recorded his facinatingly sublime original score to the Ridley Scott film Legend to a sold out house at SF Sketchfest and made the soundtrack available for free download online. Reggie Watts: A Live At Central Park is out on cd/dvd via Comedy Central Records. He is a founding member of JASH.com which launched Spring 2013 with fellow founders Michael Cera, Sarah Silverman and Tim and Eric. Many of his original videos have gone viral.
As a musician, Reggie can be seen as musical co-hort in the IFC series Comedy Bang! And in his many Reggie Makes Music videos. He joined LCD Soundsystem as guest onstage at the final NY shows and he appears in the documentary Shut Up And Play The Hits. Reggie also sang on Regina Spektor’s Dance Anthem of the 80s and toured Europe with her, toured the US with DEVO, was featured in Hot Chip’s Night and Day video and recorded an original session for the Daytrotter series. As the frontman for Seattle rock outfit Maktub, Reggie and his band released five albums. Reggie composed original music for Louie on FX and performed the theme song for Comedy Bang!
On screen, Reggie can currently been seen on The Late Late Show with James Corden as well as in the IFC series Comedy Bang! His special Reggie Watts: A Live At Central Park aired on Comedy Central in May 2012. His mother is and his father was an officer in the and the family lived in Germany and Spain before relocating to, where Watts was raised and graduated from in the class of 1990. Watts moved to in 1990 at the age of 18 to study music. He briefly attended before studying jazz. While in Seattle, he played in a number of Seattle bands of wildly varying genres, including Hit Explosion, Swampdweller, Action Buddy, Chiarrscuro, Clementine, Smell No Taste, 4+1 Ensemble, Das Rut, Synthclub, Elemental, Eyvand Kang Seven Nades, and Free Space, amongst others.
Career [ ] Early career (1996–2009) [ ] In 1996, Watts became the front man for soul, rock, and hip hop group. While recording and touring in 1996-2000 with 4+1 Ensemble as a keyboardist, Watts downsized his effects pedal from a tape delay to a delay modeler, a smaller device that makes it easy to travel. He began using the Line 6 in live shows with, in order to replicate the duplicate harmonies from the recorded material. Then, he experimented with improvising entire songs in solo acts with the Line 6, while trying to sound like, playing initial gigs at small Seattle venues and artist bungalows. While in Seattle, Watts composed musical scores for Northwest dance choreographers and he dabbled in sketch comedy with future theatrical collaborator. In 2004, after recording five albums over eight years, Watts moved to the, New York City. In 2005, he recorded his first solo single, 'So Beautiful'.
Inspired by and, he began infusing spontaneous comedic material with the beat-box-driven musical compositions. He shot comedic web shorts for Superdeluxe, and. In 2006, Watts started to branch out into performing for television and film, while continuing to pursue live performance and the creation of new performance technologies. A Live in Central Park (2012) [ ] Watts's second stand-up special, Reggie Watts: A 'Live' in Central Park, premiered on May 12, 2012 on Comedy Central in the 'Secret Stash' completely uncensored to positive reviews. Reggie Watts at, March 2013 In 2012, Watts began starring opposite on the series, based on the comedy podcast of the same name (formerly ). Also in 2012, Watts began collaborating with,, and to create their comedy known as. In 2013, On The Boards recorded a new Watts special entitled Transition, which played at various arts festivals including the at; it was winner of the MAP Fund Award and Creative Capital award.
It is available on iTunes via TenduTV. Watts was invited to perform at Yoko Ono's 2013 on the South Bank in London where he was supported. In 2014, Watts contributed the outro vocal on 'Holy City' and beatbox on 'The Classic' from the album.
