Thanks for taking the time to answer my query. I must admit that with or without the serail naumber the pen just didn't feel right. I say that as someone who has never owned a genuine Montblanc but as someone who appreciates good design that has been well executed. This thing just didn't feel right. To cut a long story short, I sent a very polite email outlining my concerns and the vendor has offered a full refund including my costs to return the pen. All's well that ends well I guess. I'm betting you got caught out by the same seller, wwon15. They did not try to convince me further that it was genuine. I had the same reaction when i picked up the pen. I found out that the star on the inside of the box lid should be white with a black surround not black.
Could have been a costly lesson for both of us. At least they are accepting returns, we can be thankful of that. Some may try recoup costs reselling it suspecting it was not genuine. When I get time I am going to start a thread in the eBay Community Board about spotting fakes. Any information anyone reading this can provide would be appreciated to get things rolling. I understand that even genuine Generation and Bohemes do not have serial numbers. Regards Mike Mike ( no login) Re: All sorted October 28 2005, 9:41 PM.

For current production models: Classique, LeGrand (including 149), Starwalker, Boheme, all have individual serial numbers. Noblesse, Generation do NOT have individual serial numbers. Donation pens such as Menuhin, Karajan, do not have serial numbers. Limited edition pens, such as annual pens, Writers' Editions, all have edition numbers. However, some fakes do have serial numbers but these tend to be roughly engraved, rather than the genuine laser etched ones.
Many web sites have detailed description on how to spot fakes and most carry photos. Here is the best (IMHO) un-official Montblanc web site with a very good section on fakes. Feel free to contact me back channel if you need more information. .
